Ostrčilova Bilingual School is part of a Czech state school - Základní škola a mateřská škola Ostrava, Ostrčilova 1 - which is a non-profit organisation founded in 1960, located in the centre of the town close to a park and other sports and leisure facilities. 
Since 2005 the school has had authorization from the Czech Ministry of Education to provide a bilingual education for children aged 6 to 15 years. At the present time the school offers education to children of all nationalities from nursery age to Grade 9. Ostrčilova Bilingual School follows the Czech National Curriculum reflecting the needs of the EU, taught through the medium of English, using British and American books and materials - Jolly Phonics, Nelson English, New Star Science, Every Day Mathematics. 
Children receive an official Czech report and in addition an evaluation in English twice per year (January and June). Besides well equipped classrooms, school facilities include a cafeteria, track and field, science lab, specialized Music room, Care Centre, School Library, computer lab and two small gymnasiums. 
The maximum class size in the pre-school is 25 students –each class having two teachers; in the Primary school is 22 students. Classes are run by enthusiastic teachers who adopt a variety of teaching methods. All students are required to learn Czech and from Grade 4 up, one other optional modern language – French, Spanish or German. A wide range of extracurricular and after school activities is offered throughout the school year aiming to extend the school curriculum. A week of field studies takes students from PK-4 until Grade 9 to various parts of the Czech Republic to promote an understanding and appreciation of Czech culture and heritage. 
The school has a strong parent teacher association and parental involvement is actively encouraged. The pre-school operates from 6:00 and finishes at 16:30. The Primary school day begins at 8:00 and finishes at 14:25 – including after school activities. The Care Centre operates until 17:00 for students of Grades 1 to 3.
